The Role

The VP/GM Materials position is based in Vancouver, BC and reports directly to the Canada Region President. This position provides strategic direction and development in all aspects of the business including: safety, long and short-term profitability goals, market growth, cost management, capital investments, compliance, asset management, and performance management

Nature of the Role

The Vice President/General Manager Materials will provide strong, energetic leadership for Lehigh Hanson and direction to the British Columbia materials businesses.

  • Full P&L responsibility for the business unit.

  • Create and execute the vision and business strategy for the area of responsibility.

  • Establish clear standards and utilize key performance indicators to consistently achieve long term goals and short term objectives.

  • Identify acquisition or strategic growth opportunities to further strengthen the Materials business

  • Maintain awareness of market conditions and the impact on the business, adjusting strategies and tactics as needed to achieve results.

  • Manage all aspects of the operation to deliver production efficiency, quality, service, and cost-effective management of resources, while ensuring high ethical, safety, and environmental standards.

  • Oversee commercial management of the business.

  • Proactively manage Safety & Health of employees to continuously improve the H&S performance

  • Develop, coach and manage the area staff. Responsible for staffing, performance evaluations, and employee development

  • Participate as an active member of the Canada Region Integrated Business Team (IBT) team.

Essential Experience and Skills

  • Proven track record of successfully managing all aspects of construction materials businesses.

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline.

  • Established credibility within the construction materials industry with a proven record of commercial success.

  • Excellent technology aptitude and experience with manufacturing systems and software as well as customer applications.

  • Strong people and culture manager with a track record of building bench strength, leading leaders, and maximizing the impact of the organization.

  • Entrepreneurial spirit combined with prudence. (i.e. consideration of risks and opportunities).

  • Highly developed organizational influence and negotiation skills.
