The VP/GM role is based in Sylvania, OH and reports directly to the Region President.

This position is responsible for the leadership and direction of the sales and production operations for Central IN and Northern OH area. In this capacity, the incumbent will set strategic goals and manage the achievement of business profitability through production efficiency and marketing strategies for 13 aggregate sites and 3 rail terminals in Central IN and Northern OH.

What you’ll get to do

• Provide vision, direction, and strategies necessary to lead the business.

• Ensure business goals and objectives are in line with the overall business strategy of the Midwest Region and Lehigh Hanson organization, both short and long-term.

• Develop, implement, and measure performance results on a regular basis and take corrective action as required.

• Develop overall production plans and area budgets. Provide direction to management and oversee progress to ensure that plans are met while being prudent in cost and inventory management.

• Lead, guide and develop the management team in the Central IN and Northern OH area toward achieving business goals, growing profitability, and expanding customer base.

• Maintain awareness of market conditions and the impact on the business, adjusting strategies and tactics as needed to achieve results. In conjunction with operations personnel, maintain or enhance communication with customers, suppliers, etc. to ensure the necessary components are in place to provide superior customer service and identify opportunities for continuous improvement.

• Oversee capital budgets, operating budgets, and operating costs. Responsible for reviewing and approval of all capital expenditures.

• Participate in systems analysis to identify areas for efficiency increases and cost reductions. Implement cost savings measures where appropriate.

• Direct the sales activities and marketing strategies for the Central IN and Northern OH area.

• Build direct relationships with key customers. Participate in industry and community organizations to facilitate the recognition and reputation of the company.

• Serve as the liaison between sales and operations for optimal coordination.

• Implement practices and policies to ensure safe and healthy working environments at all our facilities.

• Develop, coach, and manage the Central IN and Northern OH area staff. Responsible for staffing, performance evaluations, development, and discipline.

• Identify and execute potential mergers and acquisitions.

Essential Experience and Skills

• Bachelor’s degree required.

• Minimum of 10 years’ experience in the construction industry, aggregates experience preferable.

• 7-10 years’ experience in progressively responsible positions in sales, operations, or engineering.

• Prior supervisory experience is required, experience in a union environment is desirable.

• Must have a solid understanding of both operations and sales functions.

• In depth understanding of the financial aspects of a business, including P&L statements, EVA, and budgets including understanding of the justification process for projects.

• Significant market pricing knowledge and cost awareness.

• Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.

• Ability to interact effectively with all levels of the organization.

• Demonstrated negotiation skills.

• Solid computer skills, including MS Office Suite of products.

• Strong leadership skills and ability to motivate others to achieve results.

• Demonstrated ability to make decisions based on sound business reasoning.

• Ability to manage changing situations effectively.

Preferred Experience and Skills


• Minimum of 10 years’ experience in the construction industry, aggregates experience preferable.

Work Environment

• Role operates primarily a professional office environment, but requires conducting business at manufacturing locations and job sites where the conditions include moving mechanical equipment, inclement weather, heat, humidity, and elevated noise levels.
