The Role and the Company

Lehigh Hanson is North America’s leading supplier of cement, aggregates, ready mix concrete, and asphalt. Reporting to the VP/GM, the Director of Operations will be responsible for the overall operations of aggregates plants in the Southwest Region. This includes all activities related to production of material throughout the region. This position will be located in Irving, TX.

What you’ll get to do

  • Support and deliver on strategic plans to advance the objectives of the Southwest Region; promote safety, revenue, profitability, and growth as an organization.

  • Lead team in efforts to insure production efficiency, quality, service, and cost-effective management of resources.

  • Work closely with sales and logistics teams to optimize product balance and inventories at the quarries with demands of rail serviced terminals and customers.

  • Plan, develop, administer, and implement budgetary goals for the region while closely monitoring results of each location. This also includes capital project analysis necessary for the improvements of the operations.

  • Communicate with direct reports so that the flow of necessary and critical information is disseminated to the necessary personnel on a timely basis.

  • Represent the company at legislative sessions, committee meetings, industry organizations and other related functions.

  • Monitor all market information within the region for proper analysis with key personnel.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, business administration or another related field.

  • Minimum 10 years related experience, with progressive experience in management roles.

  • In-depth knowledge of the financial aspects of a business unit including P&L statements, budgets, and impact of volume, price and cost.

  • Advanced project management skills.

  • Experience in sales in construction, aggregates, or cement line of business.

  • Work requires professional written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Strong presentation and networking skills.

  • Ability to motivate teams to produce quality materials within tight timeframes and simultaneously manage several projects.

  • Work requires willingness to work a flexible schedule.

  • Some overnight travel is required.

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office software and SAP.

Work Environment

  • Role operates in a manufacturing environment with moving mechanical equipment, inclement weather, heat, humidity, elevated noise levels, and dusty conditions.
