Lehigh Hanson is seeking a qualified Safety Professional. This position will report to the Area Manager –Safety & Health. This position will be based in Houston, Texas and provides support to operations in the South Texas area, key customer group will be our stabilized materials business.


  • Coordinate and administer safety programs and assure compliance with Corporate Safety Policies, State and Federal legislation and regulations.

  • Conduct compliance inspections by visiting plant sites to review safety practices and potential hazards.

  • Perform or coordinate industrial hygiene tests as required, and drive implementation of corrective actions.

  • Assure that all employees, visitors and contractors are properly trained in job hazards and safe work practices.

  • Conduct safety audits as needed, represent plant to regulatory inspectors and agencies such as MSHA/OHSA.

  • Assist in developing and administering task training for all employees and newly hired employees; lead safety orientation for newly hired employees

  • Assist in developing or locating specialized training programs.

  • Maintain accurate record keeping of safety compliance and employee training records.

  • Effectively manage reduction of all incidents in the workplace through performance of root cause analysis and implementation of corrective and preventative action.

  • Conduct incident investigations and closely manage all Workers Compensation claims and incident reporting.

  • Provide continuous interpretation and compliance planning for current and emerging regulatory issues for employee safety and health and ensures compliance with state and federal legislation and company policies.

  • Provide guidance on the purchase and maintenance of safety equipment.

  • Ensure safety systems are maintained and data is accurate.

  • Jointly work with Human Resources and other members of Regional Safety Team to develop programs and policies.

  • Ensure compliance requirements are met through organizational and procedural measures including implementation of Group guidelines, performing training, monitoring compliance, etc.

  • Proactively manage health and safety of employees to continuously improve the company's health and safety performance.

  • Participate in the Safety Audit Program as an auditor for other locations.


  • BA or BS degree in safety or industrial hygiene or equivalent experience.

  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Certified Mine Safety Professional (CMSP) qualification preferred, minimum of 3-5 years safety managerial experience in a heavy manufacturing or mining environment required

  • Experience in industrial hygiene sampling and computation.

  • Knowledge of state & federal statutes and regulations pertaining to safety, i.e., MSHA, OSHA.

  • Experience as a trainer in safety subjects.

  • Proficient computer skills with Microsoft Office products - SAP experience preferred

  • Accurate record keeping and ability to prepare reports and analysis.

  • Demonstrated experience in skill sets such as problem solving, team building, creativity, strategic thinking, and decision making

  • Excellent organizational, and communication skills, both written and oral

  • Strong interpersonal skills required to work closely with the workforce and plant supervisory level to create and maintain a strong plant safety culture.

Work Environment

When not in the office, employee will frequently be exposed to plant environmental conditions which include: Wet or humid conditions, Working near moving mechanical parts, Working at height, sometimes in precarious places, Fumes, vapors, or airborne particles, Toxic or caustic chemicals, Outdoor weather conditions, Extreme cold and extreme heat (non-weather), Industrial risks like those experienced by operations personnel including noise, dust, electrical and machine risks, large equipment and vehicles, and occasional work in elevated and enclosed spaces.

This position requires occasional climbing and entering confined spaces.
