Lehigh Hanson is seeking a qualified Shift Materials Operator (Unit 14) . This position is responsible for all aspects of safety along with maintaining consistent additive, raw material and coal flow to the mills and kiln process. This includes housekeeping on all auxiliary equipment used to transport these materials to the proper bin. Responsible for cement silo valve position changes and nightly silo level measurements.

  • Operates front end loaders to load bulk material on trucks for transport to other areas of plant, as well as, directly move bulk materials from one location to another. Drives trucks to transport materials throughout plant.

  • Completes equipment safety checklist prior to using any mobile equipment. Responsible for operating all mobile equipment in a safe, responsible manner and in accordance with all MSHA or plant policies.

  • Monitors raw material pile levels and assists with moving materials to maintain levels necessary for plant operations. Alerts supervisor of any materials requiring vendor order placement.

  • Moves railcars into position over coal pit using loader. Operators coal shakers. Uses loader to move coal from pit to storage piles and coal hopper.

  • Performs routine maintenance on loaders and other equipment, including lubricating, fueling and cleaning.

  • Opens and closes valves located on cement silo tops to divert finish mill product to designated silo. Responsible for checking that all valves are in position required to prevent any potential contamination.

  • Responsible for inspecting silo tops for safety, housekeeping, malfunctions, out-of-adjustments, equipment failures or potential failures, and air leaks. Responsible for monitoring operation and condition of silo dust collection systems. Responsible for making adjustments or clearing ductwork to assure proper function of silo dust collection systems. Notifies supervisor of all safety, housekeeping or maintenance issues that are found during inspection that require additional assistance.

  • Measures all cement silo levels each night at midnight for plant inventory purposes.

  • Responsible for the housekeeping of one of two assigned major plant areas. These areas include the FM feeder & collector belt floor and the cooler ground floor.

  • Assists in the repair or re-bricking of the kiln as needed, and other plant shutdown duties as required.

  • Maintains all tools and equipment used on the job in good working order. Assures any tools or equipment used on the job are returned to the proper tool storage area.

This position will reside in Glens Falls, NY.


  • High School Diploma or equivalent required

  • Previous work experience in a heavy industrial and/or manufacturing environment

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; strong problem solving skills

  • Ability to work different shifts, holidays and/or overtime as required

  • Physical Requirements: sitting, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, twisting, climbing, balancing, bending (bending at the waist, lifting above the waist and lifting below the waist), kneeling, reaching, grasping (use of both hands), squatting, repetitive motions, manipulative finger movements with both hands, use of wrists (flexing or rotating with both wrists), use of both feet, use of arms above and below shoulder, work extended periods of time in same position, perform duties in all climates i.e. weather, extreme temperatures, tolerate heights, lift and carry up to 75 lbs., work in confined spaces, capable of wearing respiratory and other personal protective equipment
