Want to be on solid ground and drive large equipment for your career? Be a Dragline Operator! You can’t get anything more solid or larger than that! As a Dragline Operator , your primary function is to operate power-driven crane equipment with a dragline bucket to excavate or move sand, gravel, mud, dirt, or other materials. The Dragline Operator is responsible for maintaining consistent production levels along with efficiently loading a variety of material in varying ground conditions. Responsibilities also include performing high levels of maintenance and machine servicing, operating both hand and foot controls while concentrating on loading of scalper hopper, and identifying problems with the material being mined for quality problems

This position will be based in Fairmount, IL

  • Assist in greasing, cleaning, oiling, and performing minor repairs on equipment.

  • Ability to operate a dragline 7 cubic yard safely and efficiently or larger.

  • Accurately judge distances to load hopper.

  • Maintain constant communication with all other operators.

  • Safely operate near support equipment.

  • Assist other operators or maintenance personnel when heavy or awkward duties are required.

  • Conduct a complete pre- and post-shift inspection daily.

  • Report defects to the supervisor daily.

  • Communicate with shop on safety and maintenance issues.

  • Ability to operate other pieces of mobile equipment (loaders, dozer, excavators, etc.

  • Observe all safety precautions and rules specified by federal, state, and Company regulations including but not limited to wearing property safety gear and attending safety meetings, perform pre-trip inspections, complete vehicle inspection reports, and report unsafe conditions and accidents.

  • Proactively manage the health & safety of employees to continuously improve the company’s health and safety performance.


  • High school diploma or general education (GED) preferred.

  • Minimum of 2 years of operating experience preferred.

  • Availability to work overtime and multiple shifts as needed.

  • Working knowledge of equipment operation and open-pit mining preferred.

  • Ability to identify and distinguish colors.

  • MSHA – trained a plus.

  • Complies with all State, federal and local guidelines. Physical Requirements: sitting, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, twisting, climbing, balancing, bending (bending at the waist, lifting above the waist and lifting below the waist), kneeling, reaching, grasping (use of both hands), squatting, repetitive motions, manipulative finger movements with both hands, use of wrists (flexing or rotating with both wrists), use of both feet, use of arms above and below shoulder, work extended periods of time in the same position, perform duties in all climates i.e. weather, extreme temperatures, tolerate heights, lift and carry up to 75 lbs., work in confined spaces, capable of wearing respiratory and other personal protective equipment
