The Maintenance Supervisor role is based in Edmonton, Alberta and reports directly to the Maintenance Manager.

Essential Experience and Skills

  • Journeyperson in Millwright trade or equivalent demonstrated experience combined with related post-secondary education

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in cement manufacturing or heavy industrial environment

  • Supervisory experience required, preferably in a unionized environment

  • Demonstrated expertise in the areas of preventative and predictive maintenance programs, project management and the inspection, repair and installation of equipment

  • Demonstrated experience in leadership and project management, problem solving, strategic thinking and decision making

  • Knowledge of safe work practices and safety regulations

  • Proficient with SAP, MS Office and strong computer skills

What you’ll get to do

  • Oversee the work performed by maintenance crews and outside contractors 

  • Manage urgent equipment issues 

  • Coordinate with the Maintenance department by communicating anticipated jobs

  • Help develop work schedules, equipment usage schedules, and prioritization of mechanical expenditures and procedures

  • Prepare material and labor estimates to develop project cost estimates and plant budgets

  • Monitor the acquisition and use of materials to meet productivity and budgetary goals

  • Maintain time, work order, material, equipment and other mechanical shop records

  • Determine appropriate training for employees by evaluating their skills, abilities, safety practices and behavior to maintain the necessary skills to perform their jobs 

  • Plan the schedules of the staff including assigning work and overtime as required 

  • Participate in the implementation of plant projects 

  • Ensure the application of the plant’s rules of conduct, policies, and health & safety protocols during maintenance procedures to minimize injuries and lost time incidents 

  • Motivation, ability, and willingness to provide ongoing maintenance support for all shifts by participating in the on-call program, which can involve after hours and weekend on-site supervision in order to properly resolve the issue

  • Ensure that Maintenance department tools and equipment are in good working condition and that adequate stocks of consumables are maintained to allow maintenance activities to occur as scheduled

  • Proactively manage safety and health of employees to continuously improve the company’s safety and health performance.

  • Role operates in a manufacturing environment with moving mechanical equipment, inclement weather, heat, humidity, elevated noise levels, and dusty conditions
