The Health and Safety Coordinator role is based in Calgary located in the far northwest corner of Calgary and reports directly to the Health and Safety Area Manager.  

What you’ll get to do

  • Proactively manage safety and health of employees to continuously improve the company’s safety and health performance

  • Provide on-going S & H support and guidance to plant/location management and employees in the Calgary operations

  • Implement and support all Lehigh Hanson Canada Safety and Health programs including all regulatory compliance programs and the Lehigh Hanson Safety/Health Management System

  • Continuous interpretation and compliance planning for current and emerging safety regulatory requirements at all levels affecting the assigned facilities including Provincial, Federal, and local legislation.

  • Monitor and proactively report facility Safety and Health performance and conduct local site safety training

Essential Experience and Skills

  • Minimum 5 years of relevant safety experience or equivalent combination: preferably in a construction or construction materials industry

  • Post secondary safety certification

  • Experience in managing WCB and return to work programs

  • Experience and competence in developing and implementing safety programs

  • Computer and software proficiency, particularly Microsoft Office and ability to embrace all of the aspects of the job such as accountability for the people, assets, and safety performance of the site; work fluctuating hours

  • Must have own transportation and clean class five driver’s license

  • Advanced interpersonal and communication skills

Preferred Experience and Skills

  • NCSO Certification

Work Environment

  • Role operates in a manufacturing environment with moving mechanical equipment, inclement weather, heat, humidity, elevated noise levels, and dusty conditions
