The Area Manager role is based in Calgary, AB.

Reporting to the Vice President & General Manager, Pipe – Canada Region, this position is responsible for the management of the BC, and Southern AB Pipe business. The position is accountable for the development and implementation of the strategic plan as well as the achievement of short & long term goals for safety, quality control, profitability, growth, cost control, capital investments, compliance, asset and human resource management.

What you’ll get to do

  • Lead the business units for maximization of profitability, achievement of operating plan targets and growth

  • Proactively manage safety and health initiatives to continuously improve performance and promote the highest level of safety in the business

  • Continuously drive improvement of operational processes to achieve cost leadership and optimized product quality

  • Develop and execute a strategic plan which will identify any gaps and grow the business

  • Identify and develop yearly stock material strategies to reduce costs.

  • Provide direction and leadership to the sales, production, maintenance, and quality control functions

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with customers; recognize and proactively manage changes in customer and market needs

  • Manage the human resources of the business by providing leadership and direction in the effective recruiting, training, and development of employee groups; actively participate in labour relations

  • Ensure compliance with environmental standards and government regulations related to permitting and reclamation

  • Identify capital projects, oversee the development of AFEs and management of approved projects

  • Effectively participate in cross-business teams and other initiatives that contribute to the achievement of the overall Canada Region goals

  • Maintain relationships with the local community, industry organizations and regulatory bodies

  • Ensure compliance requirements are met including implementation of Group guidelines, completion of required training, and monitoring compliance.

Essential Experience and Skills

  • 5-10 or more years of pre cast pipe or concrete operations management experience, particularly production

  • Strong understanding of operational, sales, and marketing issues

  • Strong quantitative and analytical skills, with a fact-based and data driven decision making approach

  • Computer literate including Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel

  • Experience creating budgets and managing via financial statements and operations KPI’s

  • Demonstrated ability to build and sustain a culture of safety, and lead health, safety, and regulatory

  • Demonstrated entrepreneurial thinking and successes identifying new profitable business opportunities

Work Environment

  • Role operates in a manufacturing environment with moving mechanical equipment, inclement weather, heat, humidity, elevated noise levels, and dusty conditions
