The Assistant Plant Manager role is based in Burnet, TX and reports directly to the Plant Manager.
The Assistant Plant Manager is responsible for providing advice to staff, as well as Leadership and Management for all departments. The position is responsible for providing direction and overseeing the operation functions of plant including, Pit, Crushing, Finishing and Load Out.
The role is an ideal developmental position for a future Plant Manager role.
What you’ll get to do
Works with staff, trades personnel, managements and operational staff on necessary pit, plant and load out issues.
Follows all company policies and safety procedures.
Coordinates necessary day to day operation of major portions of the plant.
Assist managing operation by working with supervisors in their area of responsibility.
Ensures a safe and clean working environment in the operating facility.
Ensures all areas of the plant is kept in good and safe working condition to maximize asset throughput.
Helps schedule preventive/predictive maintenance on the plant to optimize performance.
Ensures all jobs are complete and job sites left clean.
Attends weekly tailgate safety and department meetings.
Audits production, maintenance processes and promotes best practices.
Works with plant managers to develop yearly budgets and assist with P&L on a monthly basis.
Develops budgets to include operational and repair costs.
Works closely with plant manager to determine optimal times for repairs on production equipment.
Creates detailed Operational plan quarterly with monthly updates.
Manages up to 6 direct reports.
Manages all related production/shipping processes.
Oversee multiple departments totaling 40+ hourly employees.
Essential Experience and Skills
In depth knowledge of aggregates/sand & gravel production and associated equipment and processes.
At least 4-5 years of aggregates industry, or closely related industry experience
High school diploma or GED
Computer and systems literate, including competency with Microsoft Office
Analytical, data focused, and metrics driven with strong project management experience
Proven commitment to team success and the grit to successfully work through challenges and achieve objectives
Excellent leadership, communication, time management, and organizational influence skills
Strong track record of leading safety and health, as well as regulatory compliance
Passion and interest in becoming a Plant Manager
Preferred Experience and Skills
Bachelor’s or Associates degree
5 or more years of crushed stone or sand experience
Experience interfacing with external stakeholders such as regulatory agencies, community organizations, or local chamber of commerce
Work Environment
- Role operates in a manufacturing environment with moving mechanical equipment, inclement weather, heat, humidity, elevated noise levels, and dusty conditions
