The Shipping Supervisor role is based in Chico, TX and reports directly to the Assistant Plant Manager - Bridgeport Quarry.

The Shipping Supervisor’s position is responsible for providing an effective and efficient logistics program with a strong focus on customer service at our aggregates plant in Bridgeport.

The Shipping Supervisor is responsible for managing trucking and rail shipments for a very high-volume state-of-the-art facility capable of shipments exceeding 8 million tons per year.

What you’ll get to do

  • Works with all shipping staff (includes salary and hourly employees) to ensure shipping schedule efficiency and compliance.

  • A working knowledge of Quality Control procedures to maximize product specifications and minimize waste.

  • Follows all company policies and safety procedures

  • Coordinates necessary shipping schedules to include truck and rail shipments to a multi-state area.

  • Manage programs for continuous improvement on truck and rail loading times.

  • Ensures product inventory control measures.

  • Ensure accuracy in sales reporting. Requires a working knowledge of the sales forecast and process.

  • Ensures a safe and clean working environment in the operating facility which includes TLO/RLO, IBB and Reclaim.

  • Ensures shipping department plant facility is kept in a high percentage availability at all times.

  • Conducts weekly tailgate safety and department meetings for shipping departments.

  • Works closely with Assistant Plant Manager to determine optimal times for repairs on production/shipping equipment.

Supervisory responsibilities

  • Manages up to 15 direct reports.

  • Manages all related shipping processes.

  • Responsible for communication with outside contractor’s including Union Pacific Railroad for proper rail shipments and rail car utilization as well as contractors for rail repairs.

Essential Experience and Skills

  • A four-year degree in engineering, logistics or transportation management, or equivalent work experience.

  • Position requires an individual that is a self-starter with high energy to drive positive results.

  • Minimum of five to seven years of related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Proficiency is required in the following systems: AggQC, Excel, Word, JWS and Cognos. SAP experience a plus.

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, and technical procedures.

  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the public.

  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, total cost, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, angles, total quantities, and volume.

  • Ability to apply concepts of basic math, trigonometry, and geometry.

  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establishes facts, and draw valid conclusions.

  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

  • Ability to communicate clear and concise instructions in a professional manner.

Work Environment

  • Role operates in a manufacturing environment with moving mechanical equipment, inclement weather, heat, humidity, elevated noise levels, and dusty conditions.
