Lehigh Hanson is seeking a qualified Associate General Counsel to serve as the lead legal counsel for its Northeast Region. This position will reside at the Northeast Region's headquarters in Allentown, PA. This position reports directly to the Company’s Vice President, General Counsel and Chief Ethics Officer in Dallas, TX, but as the embedded lead attorney for the region, works independently and closely with the region president and staff and is expected to be an integral part of the region's management team. Travel is infrequent and is generally at the discretion and control of the Associate General Counsel.

Here's What You'll Get To Do:

The position of Associate General Counsel will be responsible for providing legal advice for Lehigh Hanson’s Northeast Region. The AGC will be responsible for managing all legal matters relating to the operations of this region, including purchasing and product sales transactions, litigation (commercial, employment and personal injury), employment, environmental and safety (MSHA/OSHA) compliance, antitrust compliance, real estate, and the review and preparation of various commercial agreements, including the occasional business acquisition or disposition. Responsibilities include the selection and management of outside law firms and the region's legal budget. In addition, the AGC may perform special legal assignments from time to time at the request and direction of the Vice President, General Counsel and Chief Compliance Officer.

Here's What We Are Looking For:

  • Candidates must hold a Juris Doctor (J.D.) or equivalent law degree from an accredited institution and be admitted to the bar in good standing in a state in the United States.

  • Eight (8) or more years of experience with a law firm, government agency or a legal department, Experience in the construction or construction materials industry (cement, aggregates and/or building materials) is preferred, but not required.

  • Candidate must be able to work independently with minimum legal supervision and collaboratively with other business managers, demonstrating the judgment and work ethic necessary to earn the trust of the region's management team.

  • A general understanding of the legal issues that commonly arise in the ordinary course of business operations, together with the ability to quickly learn and grasp the legal importance of new and unfamiliar issues, is necessary for the position.

  • The demonstrated ability to function as a legal generalist and promptly provide practical legal advice to experienced business managers in a fast paced commercial environment is required.
